Our Story
“When Legacy was in its infancy years, the founders would use the slogan ‘pets are like family’. Today it is an established reality that to millions of people pets are indeed ‘family’.”
Legacy Pet Crematorium provide a dignified end for faithful pet companions. We were the first pet crematorium in South Africa and continue to grow and serve South African pet owners in their time of grief.
Legacy Pet Origins
Three final-year university students sat and contemplated their future careers. Being students who did not neatly fit the corporate mold, they dreamt of starting their own business and mused that “if we fail, we can bounce back while we are young”. One of the founders discovered a newspaper article about a man who had his pet euthanised during the week and then, while dumping his garden refuse on a municipal landfill, endured the horror of finding that his beloved pet had been dumped there too. There had to be a better way, so cremation in a dignified way was the service the founders decided to provide. Legacy (formerly called Envirocin) cremated their first pet on 17 May 1996.
Now with sites in Western Cape, Gauteng and KZN, Legacy services around 500 veterinary hospitals. Legacy enjoys a respected and trusted reputation amongst veterinarians, welfares and pet owners

Today, Legacy Pet has a magnificent team of over 50 dedicated legends who continue to help us provide a dignified end for your faithful pet. We strive to live up to our values: dignity, integrity & compassion. Thank you to every vet and pet owner who entrust us with their furry, faithful friend’s goodbyes.”
